Vehicle electrical architectures are going through a transformation, to achieve consumers’ demand for automation, electrification and connected services. As the software content and complexity increases, to create a software-defined vehicle, the vehicle network is being standardized to a zonal architecture.
This reduces the cost of the vehicle network, and the associated wiring harness. But while the approach to zone is standard, there are many ways to implement it, with the associated distribution of processing, data and power throughout the vehicle.
While a zonal architecture helps the cost challenge, it brings other challenges, such as how to partition safety critical real time control operations, like vehicle propulsion. NXP has introduced a new class of real time processor which can be used in zonal, domain and vehicle control applications, to help make this transformation realizable.
