NXP’s Secure Processing Module enables fast and secure contactless biometric authentication and can easily be integrated into standard payment card bodies. These biometric cards can then be used at any point of sale within the existing infrastructure, and are powered by the RF field in the same way as a contactless transaction, so don’t require a battery or super capacitor.
In terms of personal data security, NXP Smart eBio ensures the consumer’s fingerprint is stored and matched only within the secure element in the card. Banks, merchants and payment networks never have access to the consumer’s biometric data as it never leaves the secure element, which prevents misuse by third parties. So unlike with pin codes, which could be given out to other users, a transaction is only possible when the unique biometric data matches within the card’s secure element.
