NXP has launched a series of compact RF front-end reference boards for 5G Massive MIMO radios that significantly reduce the development cycle and time to market.
NXP has announced the availability of the RapidRF series of reference boards for 5G radios. Designed for massive MIMO systems, the RapidRF designs integrate a linear pre-driver, RF power amplifier, RX LNA with T/R switch, a circulator and a bias controller in a compact footprint.
By integrating all RF front-end functions in a single, turnkey board design that supports NXP’s second generation Multi-Chip Modules, RapidRF solutions enable RF designers to accelerate the entire development process, from prototyping and design to the release of leading-edge 5G systems. The RapidRF series is ideally suited for massive MIMO radio units (32T32R, 64T64R), outdoor small cells and as drivers for high-power macro base stations. The common PCB layout also helps RF engineers scale their PA design across frequency bands and power levels.
“NXP’s new RapidRF front-end series of reference boards offer a new level of readiness that removes the complexity of RF design so that our customers can focus on their core added value."
- Pierre Piel, Vice President and General Manager of the Integrated Power Solutions Product Line at NXP.
The boards feature high efficiency Doherty power amplifier multi-chip modules and can be linearized up to 200 MHz instantaneous bandwidth. Additionally, they incorporate a coupler for digital pre-distortion (DPD) feedback and their compact configuration uses a common PCB layout across frequencies and power levels, thanks to the 50-ohm in/out integration of the NXP 5G multi-chip modules.
