OpenSDA is a serial and debug adapter that is built into several NXP® evaluation boards. It provides a bridge between your computer (or other USB hosts) and the embedded target processor, which can be used for debugging, flash programming, and serial communication, all over a simple USB cable.
The OpenSDA hardware consists of a circuit featuring a Kinetis® K2x microcontroller with an integrated USB controller. On the software side, it implements a mass storage device bootloader which offers a quick and easy way to load OpenSDA applications such as flash programmers, run-control debug interfaces, serial to USB converters, and more.
DAPLink is the new and improved implementation of mbed bootloader and standard debugging interface. It includes a Kinetis K20-based circuit implementation that is portable to all OpenSDA v1 and v2/2.1, and new version on a different Kinetis based circuit. For comparison between DAPLink and all OpenSDA version, please refer to the table below on this page.
To update your board with OpenSDA applications
Note:
It has been reported that OpenSDA v2/2.1 bootloader could be corrupted when the board is plugged into a Windows 10 machine. For details and more information on
resolving this issue, please refer to this community post. Arm Mbed DAPLink bootloaders and applications have been
developed to address this compatibility issue.
USB-KW38 comes pre-programmed with sniffer firmware by default. It means by default K2x flash is programmed with bootloader and FW dedicated to sniffer application. The following programming will remove the sniffer capabilities and allow the user to get OpenSDA serial and debug adapter.
To get further details please refer to USB-KW38
Note: If USB-KW38 is plugged to your PC and is not enumerated as a Mass Storage Device then it is programmed with sniffer Bootloader. Please follow below steps to program Open-SDA.
Reprogram your OpenSDAFreelink adapter with some new debug, serial, MSD flash-programming application
Select the right debug adapter (Pemicro OpenSDA, Segger JLink or CMSIS-DAP)(CMSIS-DAP) in your project parameters.

Select the right debug adapter (CMSIS-DAP) in your project parameters.
*Note: During development of OpenSDAv2 the reserved bootloader space was found to be too small. Thus a new version of OpenSDAv2 was subsequently released and named, OpenSDAv2.1.
